10 Things to Know Before You Move to Central or South America

Great Advice if you are planning on slow traveling, moving to, or volunteering in Central America.

Black Sand Beaches, Psychedelics and Prostitution

Yah, Mon.
After yet another long bus ride, 7 hours, we arrived in a sandy village called Puerto Viejo on the south – east coast corner of the Costa Rican. Felt good to be back in the warm Caribbean sun, clear blue waters and feeling “ire”. As in all Central American countries, the Caribbean feels very different from the rest of the country and in this case, specifically very different than the Pacific coast. (Compared to San Jose, we weren’t even on the same planet.)

Hola Mommy Dearest,

As I told you before, we are at the beautiful beach town with our couch surfing hosts, Craig and Agnes. Loving the surf and the sun, and Miro decided he’d like to learn how to surf. So, Miro took his first surfing lesson with a local tico boy named Adrian. He had some issues, since as you know, he’s great at everything he does, and well, surfing has a slight learning curve.

The Majestic Beach and it’s Seedy Underbelly

We were robbed.
Today we decided to continue with the surf theme, give Miro an opportunity to practice surfing without the pressure of a teacher. Tranqulo-like. His choice and I was so pleased. The next beach over is called Playa Guionis, just a jungle path away from Playa Polata where we’re staying. The waves are not as big as those at it’s connecting beach, therefore it’s the perfect place for a 10 year old to practice his surfing as second time and a 50 year old to try surfing …
