Travel is WAY BETTER than school!
[6 May 2013 | 26 Comments | ]
Travel is WAY BETTER than school!

My name is Miro, I am a semi intrepid 14 year old, who has been traveling the world with my mom for the last 4 years. My mom and I have slow traveled to 14 different countries during our trip, with little possessions, we live as visiting locals and spend a lot of time in open air markets and going to the places most locals go to. I have had experiences most other kids from the United States will never have. I’ve been immersed in many cultures, witnessed nature first hand, played with children who have to spend half their childhood working, so their families can make ends meet. I feel like I’m living life to the fullest and really experiencing the world. But one of the greatest differences in my lifestyle from my peers in the United States is, I don’t go to school.

Juggling the World
[4 Mar 2013 | One Comment | ]
Juggling the World

Many people think juggling is hard.
It is.

After practicing for around 30 minutes a day, I’m surprised my hands aren’t black and blue (That’s how they feel). I’ve gotten juggling with two pins at once down, and I can do double spins and stuff like that, but as soon as the 3rd pin goes in the air, I space out and they all hit the ground. I can’t focus on three at once.
And it hurts.
Imagine a semi-heavy spinning plastic baton hit your hands and wrists repeatedly. Imagine that happen every time …

The 10 Reasons why I like Cusco.

The 10 Reasons why I like Cusco.

By Miro Siegel

1: Food.
Cuisine in Cusco is one of the best things about it. Having such a wide variety is really amazing.
2: Weather.
Many people will tell you that the weather in Cusco sucks. I disagree. There’s no better feeling than listening to the rain as you drift off or getting under the covers with a book.
3:  Stray Llamas:
You got to love ‘em, they’re freaking llamas.
4: Bakeries:
Brownies cakes and cookies, oh my!

5: Mamitas:
The women in the market are extremely friendly (most of the time), and make going to the market at …

I let my mom do whatever she damn well pleases.
[18 Dec 2012 | 5 Comments | ]
I let my mom do whatever she damn well pleases.

Do you really care?
I really don’t appreciate all the hate unschoolers get from society. They have this belief that just because the child can make its own decisions, they’ll choose the worst possible outcome. I believe this is a ridiculous assumption and I don’t understand why the general public jumps to the worst conclusion. Would I choose the worst choice just because I have the freedom to choose? Huh?  Why would I?
Plus, who’s to say that the “worst decision” in your eyes is the worst decision after all? Maybe there’s …

SNEAK PEEK: New Book Prologue

SNEAK PEEK: New Book Prologue

Hey readers! You may remember that I was writing a book. Well, that book has been put on hold for now, to give me time on my next project, which is another book! This book is called Shaun, the Time Traveling Pizza Delivery Man. This book feels so much more natural to me, considering its quirkiness. Infected was a tad bit serious, and I find comedy easier to write. Anyways, here’s a prologue to give you a taste.

Prologue
Shaun hated his job. Long, grueling hours, low pay, unfriendly work conditions, it’s a mystery why he stuck with it. One …

Often you will hear Lainie say “we are blessed to be accidental unschoolers” and has become and an advocate for “life learning” at any age. Lainie & Miro describe their greatest accomplishment as the ability to participate in the world without fear.
