My ABCs of Travel

My ABCs of Travel
January 23, 2012 Miro Sevin Siegel

We’ve been officially tagged in a game of ABCs! No, this isn’t an unschooling alternative,  it’s travel bloggers equivalent to a chain letter. So, let’s play!  One of our favorite blogs Familyonbikes.org tagged us. We like them. We like them a lot, even did a podcast with them with one coming up shortly. But for now, Miro took the lead with this meme and decided to tackle our ABC’s of travel. His answers are definitely a unique spin on this meme, but we’re happy to play along.

At the end of this post, we’ve passed along the favor and tagged a couple more people of blogs we like to play along.

Let’s get started with the Letter A and we are sure we don’t have to tell you how this ends…

A-Z of travel written by Miro

A: Age you went on your first international trip: 2 years old, in Jamaica

B: Best (foreign) beer you’ve had and where: I personally can’t answer this one, but my moms favorite is black Cusquena

C: Cuisine (favorite): My favorite food on the road is Pupusas, but my favorite food ever is sushi.

D: Destinations, favorite, least favorite and why: Favorite, Guatemala, least favorite, Costa Rica. Guatemala because the culture and Costa Rica because the lack of culture.

E: Event you experienced abroad that made you say “wow”: Moms Laugh attack in dorm room in Salento, Colombia.

F: Favorite mode of transportation: Giant eagle, and when thats not available teleportation will do.

G: Greatest feeling while traveling: Sushi in mouth.

H: Hottest place you’ve traveled to: Nicaragua, Granada in the summer. (And winter)

I: Incredible service you’ve experienced and where: Definetly the Pupusa Restaurant. The knew me there.

J: Journey that took the longest: Probably the 30 hour shuttle ride during hurricane Agatha.

K: Keepsake from your travels: Definitely my memories (because we don’t want to carry too much stuff).

L: Let-down sight, why and where: Costa Rica. Need I say more?

M: Moment where you fell in love with travel: As soon as we hit Nicaragua.

N: Nicest hotel you’ve stayed in: Since we don’t stay in nice hotels, let me tell you about the worst hotel. There was a little incident with a drunken inn keeper. Need I say more?

O: Obsession—what are you obsessed with taking pictures of while traveling?: That’s out of my jurisdiction.  Ask my mother. (But we do have a photo essay section, you can see for yourself.)

P: Passport stamps, how many and from where? Well we’ve been to twelve countries but we had to leave and re-enter for our visa, so because of that I couldn’t say exactly.

Q: Quirkiest attraction you’ve visited and where: Volcano in Guatemala, when we tried to hike it at midnight and ran into a magic cow.

R: Recommended sight, event or experience: Sneaking away from the required tour and exploring Chan Chan yourself and get lost in the life size maze in Peru. We did!

S: Splurge; something you have no problem forking over money for while traveling: Well, it’s not really my money so I have no problem forking over for sushi, but my mom takes care of the budgeting.

T: Touristy thing you’ve done: Cancun. Definitely Cancun.

U: Unforgettable travel memory: The 6 1/2  hour hike my mom and I took in Colombia. Trying to forget

V: Visas, how many and for where? We haven’t had to apply for visas yet, but will have to if we want to go to Bolivia or Brazil.

W: Wine, best glass of wine while traveling and where? My mom drinks it out of a box. Seriously.

X: eXcellent view and from where?: Top of Tikal, Guatemala.

Y: Years spent traveling?: So far, about 3 years.

Z: Zealous sports fans and where?: In all of Latin America soccer is like a religion.

And finally, it’s my turn to tag a few fellow travel bloggers to do their ABCs:
