The Children of Granada

The Children of Granada
October 21, 2009 Lainie Liberti

I fell in love with the children of Granada.

They were so curious about us, the gringo mother and son who just moved in to the end of their street. Our house was on the end of a city street, that turned into a dirt road and no cars ever drove up to the end. The street was always filled with many many children, playing soccer, baseball and the girls were always gathering for a game of jacks.

From 3:00 pm to 9:00 without fail the streets were filled with the neighborhood kids and eventually, they got to know us and trust us. Miro started to play soccer with the boys and the girls offered to show me jacks. Our communication was limited due to my lack of Spanish, but they were much more patient than our Spanish teacher and smiled a lot more.

They loved to pose for my pictures, which always showed the smiles in their eyes..
