45 Changes – The Bandaloop Way

Today is my birthday.
Today I am 45.
Age is an issue of mind over matter.  If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.  ~Mark Twain
Sometimes I believe that. Other days I have a more difficult time. Today is one of those days.
Did I mention, today I turn 45?
Yes. 45.
This number to me has more impact than I thought it would.
45 is 5 short years to 50. (and 50 is a big BIG number!) That is a concept I am having a difficult time believing.  Seriously. It’s like it’s someone else’s life, someone …

Love on the Road – What’s the point?

“What’s the point?”
…I hear myself say in response to a friend who calls me on it. I have known this friend for only three weeks, but she seems to understand my defenses, and challenges my words.
The question she asked me was, “why don’t you pursue it?”
My automatic response was, “What’s the point?” And in that moment, I actually believed there was none.
All experiences, whether perceived good or bad, painful or joyful create the mosaic of who we are. I’ve written about friendships on the road, all which ultimately lead to …

Hola mi madre!

Hola mi madre!

love Nicaragua, much more than Costa Rica. There is a real passion in the people, the streets, the culture that contrasts with Costa Rica’s gringo influence. Nicaragua is country with is fatigued with much internal fighting and the corruption of politics and in general, the people here are very poor.

A “Pick Up” and a Go

A “Pick Up” and a Go

We set out early in the morning, reversing our journey. Water taxi crossing, bus terminal in Belize City, then bus to the border. We reached the border, and waited to pass through the immigration. Belize requires an exit fee, so if you want to get out of this country, you must pay the $15 per person. I shelled out the $30 bucks for both Miro and I. We were picked out of the line by one of the immigration officers. He was a handsome black man with a Caribbean accent. …

Doppelgangers and Mail Order Brides

Doppelgangers and Mail Order Brides

We had arranged to meet up with Cyndi, who had left a couple of days earlier, back in Caye Caulker for our remaining time in Belize. We took the bus back to Belize City, then the water taxi across the ocean until we arrived back on that familiar sandy dock, on the island we’ve come to love. We headed straight back to the kitty reserve to share the cabana once again with Cyndi. We spent a day relaxing at the split, taking pictures and loving the Caribbean sun. After …
