New England – Lowell [PHOTO ESSAY] Pt 2

Explorations through the lens of my camera
As always, one of my  greatest joys when I travel is walking around, getting lost, and taking photos. I love seeing places for the first time with fresh eyes and find beauty  in the mundane. This is Part 2 of a two part photo essay of Lowell, Massachusetts. (Be sure to check out Part 1 of this series here.)

Our Mormon Couch Surf Experience in Massachusetts

Our Mormon Couch Surf Experience in Massachusetts

What is the point of traveling for us?
Cultural exchange. Learning. Growing. Experiencing. Connecting.
That’s why we travel. That’s why we couch surf.
Our first stop on our crazy six week trip before the conference, we were invited to couch surf with a family who lived in the quaint community of Lowell. We love couchsurfing with families and have done so many times throughout our travels in Latin America. But we’ve never couchsurfed in the United States, so I thought this would be not only a great reentry back into the US, but …

Our DC- Not a Tourist Post

Our DC- Not a Tourist Post

I’m extremely empathic.  Normally, I feel the emotional energy around me from people and places. In other other words, I’m emotionally intuitive. No, I don’t read minds, nor can tell fortunes, but I am very sensitive to energy.  I’ve learned to manage this throughout my life. I even used this to my advantage professionally, when I worked in branding, but that’s a completely different story for another time.
But I’ll get to how this relates to our travels, in just a second…
If you remember, we were in Washington DC at the beginning of our crazy 6 week trip through the States. …

A Review- 40 Berkeley- Boston

Boston
Our travels back to the States have been eventful, to say the least. But a good night’s sleep is always welcome when we are traveling.
One of the perks of living so publicly and sharing our lives through this blog are the occasional invitations we receive to  write a review and share our experiences about hotels, attractions, etc. On this occasion, we were so grateful to receive the opportunity to to stay at 40 Berkeley in Boston in exchange for our honest review.
Visiting the United States is expensive. Staying in Boston is more expensive than I could have imagined. This was our …

Hawaii- One of the World’s Beautiful Places

Hawaii- One of the World’s Beautiful Places

Hawaii
I love looking back at all the beautiful places we’ve been. It’s one we continue to feel gratitude for all of the blessings in our lives. One of the earliest trips Miro and I took together was our visit to one of the most beautiful places in the world, the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. Miro was 7 and we spent 2 wonderful weeks together at the world-famous Waikiki Beach.
Oahu is 3rd largest of the islands and has the greatest population, of close to one million people. Over 75% of the …

lainie and miroA single mom & son's travel blog & podcast, chronicling their nomadic adventures as they travel around the world together; Raising Miro on the Road of Life.

Miro & Lainie (mother 46 and 13 year old son) share their adventures from the Road of Life, discussing issues of humanity, global citizenship, unschooling, slow travel, family travel, volunteering, travel inspiration & living in the moment as they explore the big beautiful planet, they call home.

Three and half years, 12 countries and many personal changes later, Lainie & Miro continue to slow travel around the globe, living an inspired possession-free-lifestyle, volunteering and learning naturally. They are following their interests on the road, as the planet has been transformed into their classroom. Often you will hear Lainie say “we are blessed to be accidental unschoolers” and has become and an advocate for “life learning” at any age. Lainie & Miro describe their greatest accomplishment as the ability to participate in the world without fear.
