Cheese and Pistols

Le’Wanda was found dead in a mouse trap. The police officers said it was merely an accident. I think it was murder, most likely a cheddar dispute. Those damned rats are heartless. I’m on the case.

I started off by visiting my old friend Rowan. He knew Le’Wanda quite well, and I figured I could get a lead from him. I asked him if she had any enemies; any one that wanted her dead. He told me that no one would put a finger on her, that she was an outstanding member of the community. I thanked him for his time and left. My next stop: The crime scene.

They covered their tracks very well, but it seems like they overlooked one small detail: The cheese on the trap. I analyzed the glob of gouda, and sure enough, there were teeth marks. While the rats were placing the cheese, they couldn’t resist the taste. I took a sample and returned to my office.

Just as I suspected. The fang marks match the ones of the Ratty Gang leader, Desmond. I rounded up some officers and got in my patrol car and rushed to his rat hole.

I knocked on his door. He didn’t come at first, so I knocked a second time, this time harder. He opened the door, and I was greeted by his grotesque face. I rushed in past him.

“What’s the meaning of this? You’re not welcome here!”

“We have reason to believe that you were involved with the death of Le’Wanda Mouz.”

“I know nothing about that.”

“We found a set of fang marks at the scene of the crime. They match yours perfectly.”

“It wasn’t me! It was my boss! I swear!”

“Would you happen to know his name?”

“Larry Rout.”

I left my card with him and went to back to the presync to investigate this ‘Larry Rout’. A single match came up. We found him with no trouble, and promptly arrested him.

I had my best men interrogate him.

They came out soon thereafter.

“He doesn’t know anything. He’s been framed.”

“Damnit!”

I rushed outside and drove to Desmonds. The door was locked and a note was pinned to it.
Nice try, detective.

He got away from us… DAMN IT! How could I have been so naive? Le’Wanda’s death goes un-avenged.
