100 Stories- 100 Days – Short Story #7
I finally found her, and she’s an elderly woman! She did this! She put my brother away for something he didn’t do. He was executed. I’ve been waiting so long for this moment. I’ve been waiting for my revenge.
I broke into her house using a lock pick, only to discover she isn’t here. I took this time to investigate.
I’m guessing she’s extremely wealthy judging by the furniture in this house. Elegant glass sculptures and marble flooring, not to mention the huge chandelier in the living room. Wait, that gives me an idea.
I just finished rigging up a tripwire that loosens the chandelier. If she triggers it, she’ll be crushed to death by her own wealth. I baited the trap by putting an envelope on the ground just beyond the tripwire. Now all I have to do is wait.
About an hour passed before she came home. As the doors opened, I hid behind a pillar, and began to watch her. It took her a few minutes to notice the bait, but when she did, she started to move towards it.
She’s slowly approaching it at a turtles pace. Leaning on her cane she scuttles forward at an alarmingly slow pace. I might be here for a while.
About 20 minutes have passed and she’s only a fraction of the way there. She’s slower than a herd of turtles waiting for a pack snails to cross the road while a monkey is stacking boxes on top of each other to reach a bunch of bananas. I’m starting to get impatient.
15 more minutes have gone by and she’s almost there. If I wait patiently just a little bit longer It’ll finally happen.
She’s a few inches away… Come on… come on…
She steps over it.
