Exploring new models for sustainable living and creating a community of unity.

This episode includes Lainie & Miro’s experiences at the Conscious Convergence gathering July 17 & 18, honoring beginning of the Mayan 9th Wave on Consciousness, an era of “unity”. Also included in this episode is part of a round-table discussion exploring sustainability and alternate forms of energetic exchange. Lastly, Lainie talks to yoga teacher and massage therapist Holly who shares her travel experiences.

Lainie & Miro share  their ideas about what community is, how to create community and what that means in their lives.

Lainie and Miro share a candid conversation about the idea surrounding the concept of “community”. Miro has been a part of many communities throughout his life, but not sure if had ever been asked to consider that before. Miro’s surprising response about his personal responsibility “to change the world” is charming and uplifting.

Lainie & Miro attend the The Conscious Convergence at Lake Atitlan and explore ways of building a united community.

A Wave of Unity July 17-18, 2010: Conscious Convergence is global event designed to pave the way for the ninth and last wave of consciousness according to the Mayan calendar system. The Conscious Convergence’s mission is to bring people together with the shared intention of cultivating a critical mass of harmonious energy that supports inner an outer reconciliation. We come together in the spirit of unity to heal wounds that separate us, to reconcile conflicts that divide us, to inspire ideas and actions that express our oneness and to join together in the heart and mind to welcome the birth of our new world. According to the Mayan belief system, there are 9 waves of consciousness, and July 17-18 2010, mark the entrance into the final or the ninth wave of consciousness. The ninth wave is known as “unity” consciousness, whereas the theme of “community” brings us back full circle. According to the Mayans, entrance into this wave marks the end of an era of dualistic consciousness common to the belief that we are separate from one another, as in duality thinking. More information on the Mayan Ninth Wave can be found here.

The event was hosted by David and Silvia, friends of Lainie and Miro,  at their hostel at Lake Atitlan.  David and Silvia are an inspiring couple who met at an eco-farm in Mexico and are now creating their own eco-village, cultural center and hostel with the desire of creating a self sustaining community. Their hostel is called Xamanek  Hostel and Cultural Center located at the lakeside village of San Marcos.

The intent of the Conscious Convergence is to contribute collectively, and set an intention to create a community of unity consciousness.

The project David and Silvia are developing with others called A Green New World, is an example of this energy of unity. The project is actively exploring alternate exchanges of energy other than the traditional monetary exchange as they look to building a sustainable community.

The first segment of Podcast #5  is the first 10 minutes of the round table discussion that took place at the Consciousness Convergence on Saturday July 17.

David hosted the talk as he opened the discussion by looking at three separate sustainable models of alternate energy exchange, that are currently working.

Green New World

It is becoming ever more apparent that we must change our lifestyles to preserve the beauty and richness of our home we all share Planet Earth. It is time that individuals, communities, corporations and governments take more deliberate actions to minimize the environmental burden on our planet ensuring a space for our children and generations to come.

Here’s a link to the full talk: Models of Sustainability – Full Talk (40mbs 43:44) The first working model of sustainability is Couchsurfing, the second, WWOOFing and the third is Vipassana Meditation. (For links to each of these models, see the resources section at the end of this post)

Lainie & Triangle Wellness founder Holly Hay, take time from the Conscious Convergence to talk about yoga, travel & the healing arts.

Holly Hay, founder of Triangle Wellness, yoga teacher, massage therapist and avid traveler recently sat down with Lainie for an interview at Lake Atitlan. She talks about life on the road, exchanging energies, trading for services and giving back to the world. Her travel lust comes through in this candid interview as she shares some personal experiences on the road. Her services are in high demand world wide. She has taught yoga and has functioned as the resident massage therapist in India, Spain, Portugal, Costa Rica and South Korea. The Conscious Convergence A Wave of Unity July 17-18, 2010: Creating the intention for the unity consciousness of the Ninth Wave of the Mayan calendar!

In recent years there has been a radically increased interest in the Mayan calendar and especially its end and so many ask what this tells us about the future. Surprisingly, many people ask this question as if the answer had nothing to do with themselves or the choices they make. Few seem to have considered that the fulfillment of the cosmic plan will require of them to step up to the role of co-creators with this divine plan. This is not to say that human beings can just create anything they want at any point in time. The waves of consciousness brought by the Mayan calendar still defines the framework of our existence and what we may or may not be able to create in any given era. Yet, only the creativity that is consistent with a new wave will be favored and this will again be evident as we enter the ninth, and highest, wave of the Mayan calendar system. It is thus pertinent to ask what consciousness the ninth wave will create and what it will require of us to be able to step up to becoming co-creators with this wave.

WWOOF

World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms WWOOF is a world wide network – It started in the UK in 1971and has since become an international movement that is helping people share more sustainable ways of living. WWOOF is an exchange – In return for volunteer help, WWOOF hosts offer food, accommodation and opportunities to learn about organic lifestyles.

Vipassana Meditation

Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is one of India’s most ancient techniques of meditation. It was taught in India more than 2500 years ago as a universal remedy for universal ills, i.e., an Art of Living. The technique of Vipassana Meditation is taught at ten-day residential courses during which participants learn the basics of the method, and practice sufficiently to experience its beneficial results. There are no charges for the courses – not even to cover the cost of food and accommodation. All expenses are met by donations from people who, having completed a course and experienced the benefits of Vipassana, wish to give others the opportunity to also benefit.
